Converging roads & trades
Karnage Construction is excited to announce that our beloved Mo Karnage will be on the board of this year’s International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW)! The Preservation Trades Network (PTN) will be having their 26th annual IPTW in Savannah, Georgia this year. The event will be hosted by Re:purpose Savannah at 2302 East Gwinnett Street. The 3 day workshop will consist of professionals providing hands on demonstrations of traditional building trades. Some of which include carpentry, timber framing, stone and brick masonry, plastering, roofing, and many more. This is a really great way to connect and meet the masters of your favorite trades. Registration for the event officially opens May 10th at 9:00 am. Be sure to sign up soon, spots will fill up fast!

The PTN is looking to share classic building trades while advancing the significance of historic preservation and the reclamation of cultural resources. Presenters should be able to showcase their skills in a specific building trade and be able to articulate their craft to attendees from different backgrounds.
About PTN
The Preservation Trades Network was first created in 1995, at the annual conference of Association for Preservation Technology. Since it’s creation, the PTN has always strived to address the mainstream recognition of traditional tradesmen and contractors. They realized that these talented contractors were part of a fast changing scene in which these classic trades were not adequately acknowledged. By creating this vast network of practitioners from numerous backgrounds, they were able to conserve these historic skills connected deep to our cultures. The very first “gathering of trades” event took place in 1997. This event was able to provide an abundance of on hand learning that wasn’t really available in normal conference settings. And in 2005, PTN officially became a 501c(3) nonprofit to better serve this growing community.
PTN’s community growth has not only been successful on a local level but has also evolved to an international level. At past IPTW events, there have been presenters from 19 different countries! There is now a firm foundation for team work and alliance taking place in other countries within these programs. For over 2 decades, PTN has been the trailblazer for sharing all the right tools on historic preservation and building trades. They are dedicated to sustainable education programs, the acknowledgment of the masters of trade, and also the empowerment of future trades people.
About Re:Purpose Savannah
Re:Purpose Savannah is a women, trans, and non-binary led 501(c)3 nonprofit located in the heart of Georgia. This team’s mission is to create a sustainable future through the education of deconstructing, salvaging, and the reusing of historic buildings. Re:Purpose also has a special focus on climate conscious demolition that helps protect both the environment and the public health. They integrate attentive practice of structural removal as well as documentation of sites to better preserve the diverse histories in Savannah’s community.
Started by executive Director Mae Bowley and run by a powerful team of non male construction workers, Re:Purpose has an excellent eye for detail that most other groups would not have. They strive to save the multitudes of treasured pieces of history that are vital to Savannah’s neighborhoods. They remind us that rescuing these pieces and restoring them to the streets is the reclamation movement we all should be a part of. And with tons of construction waste building up in our overflowing landfills already, now is the time more than ever.
